Congratulations to Town Square Brewing of Edmonton, Alberta who collected a Silver medal at the May 10, 2023 World Beer Cup in the Field beer (The Field beer category is for sours ) category for "Beets". The event was held in Nashville Tennessee during American Craft Beer Week. This sour beer is a core product for Town Square brewing and the beer has previously won Gold at the Canadian Brewing Awards in 2021, as well as collecting a couple bronzes at the Alberta Brewery Awards.
Town Square defines the beer made by Brewer Drew Sinden as a sour that was created using chopped beets in the kettle, and then again during fermentation. Hitting all the flavour notes, Beets by Sinden is tart, earthy, fruity and loaded with citrus - all wrapped up in a pretty pink package!
Beets can be found all over Alberta, including Calgary. Here is a link to Town Squares Beer Finder. Do yourself a favor, if you have never had a beer with beets in it, grab a can so that you can see what award winning beer should taste like.
Congratulations is also due to 33 Acres Brewing Co., which is a brewery that was founded in Vancouver, but that opened up operations in Calgary. The brewery in Vancouver has a second location next door called 33 Acres Brewing Experiment. The 33 Acres Brewing Co team took home a bronze for the Belgian- Style Tripel titled 33 Acres of Euphoria (on tap in Calgary), while the 33 Acres Brewing Experiment team earned a Gold for their Saaz Dryhopped Saison in the Classic Saison category.
This years annual World Beer Cup (which was founded in 1996), saw 14 Canadian craft breweries collect honours from 10,213 beer entries, from 2,376 breweries, from 51 countries, in 103 beer styles categories, judged by 272 BJCP certified judges in 26 different countries.
